Its Back to School!

So the day finally arrived that both S and i were waiting anxiously for - the first day of school. For some reason S has been super excited about wanting to go to school because he used to see his cousins go off to school and he imagined it to be this wonderland kind of place. Now I feel hes having mixed feelings about it and so am I, I know he needs to interact with other people and develop more confidence because he was turning out very shy in public (at home a tiger and out of the house a mouse :) - but somehow i am not a big fan of structured school environments for 2.5 yr olds! Although his school is quite chill - they dont put a lot of pressure on the kids or anything - in fact its one of the more chilled out school cultures (in the sense less academic focused and more focused on learning through play and developing basic foundation skills etc,,,
But still watching him having to take instructions and follow a certain routine/discipline in the class is kind of strange... the good part is that in just one week of school i can see his confidence level grow... Now he is no longer hiding behind me in front of strangers and shakes hands, says salam confidently, shares his thoughts on things etc.,. So i guess it does have its advantages... One of the days he told me he didnt want to go and that really upset me - you know the feeling of Oh God am i forcing him into this - is this right for him, am i making him sad... But then a friend told me that this is what school life is all about - there will be good days and bad days but overall its going to be worth it,,, And that is true,.. i remember my own school experiences so clearly - there were days that i was sad it was a weekend and there were days i didnt want to get out of bed... but at the end of it im glad that im educated (!!!) and overall i got a lot out of it! :)
The other interesting thing about going to school is meeting other mothers... The first day i went i saw mothers who i thought were very "different" from me... in the sense that they seemed a bit shocked that i worked and i dont stay home with my son! But  the next day on i met a different set of moms almost all of whom work and those who dont are educated and not scandalized by the thought of working mothers... I have nothing against moms who dont work - sometimes i wish i was one of them... but i dont like it when non-working moms give me this look like - what kind of mother are you!!!
Anyway the new bunch of moms i met are closer to me in mindset which is good since i have to spend one hour every morning with them coz we need to still go with the kids for another week or so till they settle down...
Anyway i hope this school is the right one for my son... and it does contribute positively to his development Inshallah.......
